A Word from NCLD
NCLD's Executive Director, James Wendorf, describes some of the steps that NCLD is taking to help ease the transition from school to the workplace for students with LD.

What's New from NCLD

  • Live LD Talk Focusing on Learning Disabilities in the Workplace-January 24, 11 a.m. ET
Making the successful transition from school to the workplace can be particularly challenging for students with LD.  Noted expert in post-school and employment issues for adults with learning disabilities, Paul J. Gerber, Ph.D., will be answering questions for parents and adults on topics such as, the importance of self-knowledge and self-advocacy; weighing the ‘potential gains’ and ‘acceptable losses’ of self- disclosure; anticipating and answering employer questions about LD, and determining ‘reasonable accommodations.’
Join us at 11 a.m. on January 24 for our live, online chat, focusing on “Learning Disabilities in the Workplace.” Submit questions in advance or join us live at 11 a.m. ET on January 24!
  • Calling All Creative People with Learning Disabilities!
In honor of our 31st Anniversary, NCLD is looking for self-portraits that capture what life is like for individuals with learning disabilities. The Portraits of LD Competition, open to children, teens, and adults, is intended to celebrate the unique vision of children and adults affected by LD.  Selected submissions will be featured on our Web site and at our Annual Benefit Dinner in New York City this April, and our grand prize winner will have the chance to attend the Dinner, honoring Ted Turner. The deadline is February 8, 2008.

LD Champions
Having a learning disability does not limit a person's ability to be expressive or creative.  Each month, LD News spotlights the work of a person with LD and features their art, essays, or other expressions of what life is like for individuals with LD.

This month, LD News highlights 2007 Anne Ford Scholarship Runner-up Porscha Buck of College Station, Texas.  Aspiring to become a doctor, Porscha is working towards 'a lifetime of helping others, while living with, but being unencumbered by, her learning disability.’
