What's New from NCLD

LD Champions
Having a learning disability does not limit a person's ability to be expressive or creative.  Each month, LD News spotlights the work of a person with LD and features their art, essays, or other expressions of what life is like for individuals with LD.

This month, 2008 Anne Ford Scholarship Award Runner-up, Nathan Porter, talks about finding solace (and strength) from the frustrations of school in swimming and tells of his plans to "face the challenges of college life and succeed” with a college degree in business, economics, and social entrepreneurship.

This Month on Capitol Hill
NCLD’s monthly roundup of articles and happenings on Capitol Hill.  Features include:

  • Department of Education Releases Proposed Regulations;
  • The Case for Graduation Rate Accountability.
  • New NCLD Podcast on Transition to College for Students with Learning Disabilities.

Research Roundup:  Fixing Learning Disabilities? Consumer Beware!
NCLD's Director of Professional Services, Dr. Sheldon H. Horowitz discusses the importance of “clear thinking” when evaluating “quick fixes” for the struggles associated with learning disabilities, and suggests ways in which to approach making decisions about controversial therapy or unconventional treatments.
