Dealing with the Social and Emotional Sides of LD

Guiding Teens with Learning Disabilities

For teens with learning disabilities, the struggles of coping with their disability-related symptoms can make the already trying time of adolescence even harder. NCLD talks with Dr. Arlyn Roffman about her book, Guiding Teens with Learning Disabilities, and about the role that self-awareness, self-acceptance, and humor play in the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Read an excerpt from Dr. Roffman’s book here.

Creating an Independent Future for Your Adult Child with LD

This LD Talk transcript highlights Anne Ford, as she draws from personal experience and her work as an activist on behalf of individuals with learning disabilities.  Ms. Ford offers insights into the frustration, confusion and heartache that are shared by so many families as their children strive to become increasingly self-sufficient and independent.

The Never-ending Debate: Public vs. Private

Which is the better choice for your child - Public or Private?
According to a review from the Think Tank Review project, little difference has been found between public and private schools. But before you flip a coin, it’s important to note that there are still some big unknowns, and that definitive answers to this question are not yet available due to research that still needs to be done.
NCLD's Checklist of LD signs and Symptoms provides a framework for identifying and addressing specific areas of concern. Although it does not diagnose learning disabilities, NCLD's LD Checklist will act as a guide for getting you the help that you need, whether you're a parent, teacher, or counselor or suspect that you yourself may have a learning disability.
